Independent HERS Raters

Homes must be certified by an independent HERS Rating Company. A HERS Rating Company will review home construction plans and determine the most cost-effective upgrades to qualify your home as ENERGY STAR and achieve the desired HERS Index and qualify the homes as ENERGY STAR.  HERS Raters  and work with the homebuilder throughout the building process, providing technical assistance. The HERS Rater analyzes the home’s potential energy performance using an approved simulation program and then completes both on-site inspections and diagnostic tests before issuing the home’s HERS Score and ENERGY STAR certificate and label. The Rater conducts computer modeling of your home plans to determine the estimated energy usage. If necessary, recommendations are made to help the home meet ENERGY STAR standards. Two or more site visits during construction will be made to verify that your home is being built to maximize your energy savings and comfort. Upon completion of these steps, the house is qualified as ENERGY STAR, and any incentives available from the Sponsors of the Program are paid directly to the applicant.

There are several qualified, independent HERS Rating Companies in Massachusetts that homebuilders can choose to work with.

The following is a list of certified HERS providers operating in the Massachusetts New Homes with ENERGY STAR Program’s territory.  This is for informational purposes only.  The Program DOES NOT endorse any of these providers.  The Program also does not guarantee that these are the only providers in the area.  To locate other providers in your area visit the RESNET web site www.natresnet.org.
